Nov. 22, 2010

I've had guys ask me why I call these the 55th & 58th SRS. If you would take time to read the Histories of the 55th & 58th you would know that prior to June 1954, both were called  Strategic Reconnaissance Squadrons /Medium Weather, as was the 53rd, 54th, 56th, and 57th. In June 1954 the Strategic & Medium was dropped and they became Weather Reconnaissance Squadrons. A lot of our guys also didn't even realize that our main purpose was monitoring Russia's nuclear program. It was Weather Squadrons like ours that helped to keep the "Cold War " cold.

Did any of you know that we have very good writer in our group? He mostly writes Westerns & Science Fiction.  His name is Carl Riley and he served in the 58th at Eielson at the same time I did. I have read one his books and was very impressed. This is a list of internet sources where 11 books are located and they can all be bought at Amazon.com, too.  http://www.lulu.com and http://www.publiskamerica.com. Check them out.

I hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving planned for this year.  Today Beverly and I are going down to the High School where every year the "Honor Roll" students prepare a Thanksgiving dinner for all the senior citizens in the community. We have been doing this for several years now.  We love getting an early start on the Holidays.

HI guys, I have been ask to add a newsletter section to the page. I'll probably add and delete from it monthly.  If I don't have the print large enough, let me know.
I just had some more stomach surgery done. Last Wednesday  I had a hernia repaired. They done it laparoscopically. That means  you don't have a big incision so you don't have to stay overnight. (groan)  I had 10 holes in a belly that already looked like a roadmap. Let me tell you, not a good idea. It took me thirty minutes just get out of the car and into the house. After my wife Beverly got me to bed she went to the drug store and got a stronger pain medicine.  I've never hurt so much.  This is the Sunday after and I'm still hurting.

I'm very pleased right now about how many new guys from the 58th At Kirtland we have added.  I have been adding to the roster and mailing list. Also a few from the other Weather outfits have been contacting me.   They are finding my web page and wanting to know if I know of anything going on in their groups. I tell them I don't, but I always extend them a welcome to our group.  If you like the newsletter section let me know. If you don't like it let me know.  Maybe I can get some help from you. (grin) If you know of anything that might add to it let me know. This is a list of some of the new guys from Kirtland.
